Traces
a responsive projection with Moritz Waldemeyer for Scirocco Studios.
Moritz Waldemeyer was commissioned to create a work on the theme of light for Scirocco Studios, a touring exhibition of new creative work in the spirit of the new Volkswagen Scirocco, commissioned by Intersection Magazine.
His concept drew inspiration from long exposure photographs of car tail lights, creating beautiful forms. We wanted to recreate this effect in real-time in a responsive floor projection. Invisible cars drive around a race track, only to be seen be their tail lights. Once a person stands in their path, the cars will try to steer around them.
Technical details
Cars drive through waypoints in sequence, steering around the track, with collision avoidance to evade people seen using an overhead camera. The race track was inspired by the visually interesting Oschersleben in East Germany.
Programmed in c++ using openFrameworks and OpenCV.
